REPEAT clients were dominant at JAD Speckle Park and Angus stud’s 3rd Queensland bull sale last Friday, where a yearling Speckle Park bull topped the offering at $28,000.
The Central West NSW stud, operated by Justin and Amy Dickens, Yeoval, is widely-regarded for their longer-running Speckle Park stud, so it came as little surprise that their 19 from 21 registered Speckle Park bulls were in particular demand, averaging $10,789.
In all, they sold 43/46 bulls to average $8674 at their 3rd JAD Speckle Park and Angus QLD Bull Sale, held at Rolleston, central Queensland.
In the breakdown, 10/10 commercial Speckle Park bulls averaged $7100, and 14/15 HBR-registered Angus bulls averaged $6929.
The top-priced bull of the sale was the lot 36 yearling Speckle Park bull, JAD Warrior Ace W25 (JAD W25) – a son of JAD’s exciting new sire, JAD The Marshall T87, and out of JAD E11 Miss Jennie R94.
The bull sits in the top 1% of the breed for intra muscular fat (IMF), rib and rump fats, and at just 17 months old, he featured a raw IMF scan of 7.9% – the highest of the yearling bulls.
JAD Warrior Ace W25 was purchased by repeat clients, Byrnside Beef, Biloela, QLD, who also purchased the top-priced bull at last year’s JAD sale in Queensland.
Other top prices included $26,000 for the lot 9 Speckle Park bull, JAD Voracious V220 – a son of a JAD-owned New Zealand sire, Maungahina Promise, out of one of their Canadian dams, Silver Tip HWY Elite 03D.
This 23-month-old bull weighed in at 803 kilograms, measured 41cm scrotal size, and scanned 126 square centimetres for eye muscle area (EMA), and 7.4% IMF.
He was purchased by new buyers to JAD, Rainbow Partnership, Rolleston, QLD.
There was hot competition for the lot 17 Speckle Park bull, JAD Vangelis V67 (JAD V67), who was sired by JAD Quistacat Q48, out of JAD 3X Niome N56.
Sitting in the top 3% of the breed for birthweight and scanning 7.6% for IMF, JAD Vangelis V67, was purchased by repeat clients, Ravenswood Pastoral, Mingela, QLD.
Angus bulls topped at $12,000 for the lot 47 bull, JADA Van Zant V649, who sat in the top 7 per cent of the breed for birthweight, and scanned at 7.7% IMF, 124 sq cm EMA and measured 42cm for scrotal size.
He was sold to repeat JAD clients, the Tyson family, Springsure, QLD, who bought four bulls to average $8000.
JAD Speckle Park and Angus prides itself on preparing bulls for their Queensland sale on pasture/crop only – no grain – and don’t offer sale credits, which can artificially inflate sale results.
JAD Speckle Park and Angus stud co-principal, Justin Dickens, said their clients appreciated this approach, and that was shown by the high percentage of repeat buyers to their stud each year.
“It has been particularly dry in central Queensland, and a number of our existing clients indicated that although happy with their past purchases, they didn’t need more bulls this year, so we knew it was going to be difficult this year,” he said.
“Given this, we are stoked to have had a 93 per cent clearance, and particularly enjoyed catching up with clients on sale day.
“We look forward to heading up again next year with a better team of bulls again.”
Next on the JAD Speckle Park calendar will be their 9th on-property bull and female sale, to be held on April 9 and their Yeoval property.
The sale was conducted by Nutrien Rockhampton, with Dane Pearce as auctioneer.
