JAD Angus Stud

Thursday, June 22, 2023

We established JAD Angus Stud in September 2020 through the purchase of selected stud females from the Premier Angus Dispersal Sale and from Kenny’s Creek Angus. Why? We established the Angus stud to benchmark alongside the Speckle Park stud, with all cattle being run together in the same contemporary group.

Our Angus stud has been established in close consultation with well-renowned beef consultant, Dick Whale, Independent Breeding & Marketing Services (IBMS), Wangaratta, VIC, who has been carrying out independent structural assessments of our stud cattle since 2018. Dick has viewed every female purchased for the JAD Angus Stud, and donor dam selections made with the following goals in mind:

  • Structural soundness and cow longevity of paramount importance
  • To breed cattle that survive and thrive on grass
  • To breed a more moderate mature cow size. Angus females are becoming too big and high maintenance – the lastest Germplasm Evaluation at Meat Animal Research Center, Clay Center, Nebraska, found that the Angus breed had the heaviest cows at weaning time, even heavier than the European breed females
  • Maintain and increase carcase quality, particularly marbling, tenderness, and saleable red meat yield.

We’re looking forward to offering our HBR-registered JAD Angus bulls for sale by auction for the first time at the Inaugural JAD Speckle Park and Angus QLD Bull Sale, to be held at Rolleston, QLD, on Friday, August 2. The sale will start at 1pm, with online bidding available via AuctionsPlus. The sale will be held at the Rolleston Livestock & Grain Complex, Dip Road, Rolleston.
