JAD Angus Stud

Thursday, June 22, 2023

We established JAD Angus Stud in September 2020 through the purchase of selected stud females from the Premier Angus Dispersal Sale and from Kenny’s Creek Angus. We have since purchased more stud Angus females from Stoney Point Angus (South Australia), Bald Blair Angus and Reiland Angus. Why? We established the Angus stud to benchmark alongside the Speckle Park stud, with all cattle being run together in the same contemporary group.

Our Angus stud has been established in close consultation with well-renowned beef consultant, Dick Whale, Independent Breeding & Marketing Services (IBMS), Wangaratta, VIC, who has been carrying out independent structural assessments of our stud cattle since 2018. Dick has worked with us closely in the selection of every female purchased for JAD Angus Stud, and donor dam selections are made with the following goals in mind:

  • Structural soundness and cow longevity of paramount importance. Form and Function First!
  • To breed cattle that survive and thrive on grass
  • To breed a more moderate mature cow size. Angus females are becoming too big and high maintenance – the lastest Germplasm Evaluation at Meat Animal Research Center, Clay Center, Nebraska, found that the Angus breed had the heaviest cows at weaning time, even heavier than the European breed females
  • Maintain and increase carcase quality, particularly marbling, tenderness, and saleable red meat yield.

Our Spring 2024-drop (V-drop) JAD Angus bulls are being grown out on pasture/grazing crop ahead of their offering for sale as two-year-old bulls. Main sires of our 2026 sale offering will include: Dunoon Recharge R102, Clunie Range Plantation P392, United States sires, Tehama Patriarch F028, LT Converse 8011 and Pine View Mogul G241, as well as JADAG Skeeter S175.

We will offer approximately 30 fully performance-recorded and structurally-assessed HBR-registered JAD Angus bulls at the 3rd annual JAD Speckle Park and Angus QLD Bull Sale, to be held at Rolleston, QLD, in August, 2026. Date to be advised.
